Indiana Man’s Giant Sunflower Plant Approaching World Record
An Indiana gardener’s sunflower is poised to break a Guinness World Record, standing just one foot shy of the current title holder. Alex Babich, a Fort Wayne resident, reported that his sunflower plant surpassed the U.S. record last week, reaching a height of 26 feet and 8 inches. Babich’s flower has continued to grow, and he now believes it is within striking distance of the global record – a 30-foot, 1-inch sunflower grown in Germany in 2014. To protect the plant, which Babich has named Clover, from mischievous squirrels, the City of Fort Wayne is providing a cherry picker to assist in Babich’s world record attempt. (UPI)
