NASA Confirms Space Junk Hit Florida Home
NASA has confirmed that a piece of metal that hit a Florida home last month came from the International Space Station.
The object was a metal support used to mount batteries. It was jettisoned from the space station in March 2021 and was expected to burn up as it re-entered the earth’s atmosphere.
“However, a piece of hardware survived re-entry and impacted a home in Naples, Florida,” NASA explained.
Homeowner Alejandro Otero was shaken by the experience. “I was completely in disbelief. What are the chances of something landing on my house with such force to cause so much damage?” he said. Fortunately, no one was injured. (The Daily Beast)
