Nine People Injured When Ceiling Collapses At IHOP Restaurant
Nine people sustained minor injuries Friday when a section of ceiling collapsed at an IHOP restaurant in Brooklyn’s Flatlands neighborhood. The New York City Fire Department responded to the incident where a 10-by-10-inch chunk of ceiling fell, likely caused by water damage according to city inspectors. Five injured diners were transported to local hospitals while four others declined additional medical treatment. Diner Jamie Lee described the frightening scene: “As I’m sitting down, I start hearing noises. And when I turn around, the entire ceiling was collapsing. So I was immediately trying to get out. You know, I come to eat here. And I should have been safe while enjoying my meal. And I wasn’t.” The city’s Department of Buildings cited the restaurant’s owner for failing to maintain the property.
