Romanian Prisoner Hacks Prison System, Alters Sentences For 15 Inmates

A prisoner at Târgu-Jiu Penitentiary in southern Romania hacked the prison’s IT system and modified sentences and detention conditions for himself and 15 other inmates across multiple facilities. The National Union of Penitentiary Police Officers revealed the inmate spent over 300 hours logged into the system using stolen credentials from a Dej Penitentiary Hospital employee. He reduced his own sentence by falsely recording additional served days and manipulated financial records to make unauthorized purchases.  Justice Minister Radu Marinescu confirmed investigations are underway, and promised accountability for all responsible parties.
