Scammers Reportedly Tricked Woman Out Of $400,000

Michael Lawrence and Max Richards allegedly tricked an elderly woman into believing she won $3 million dollars, then took $400,000 from her bank account.

Investigators say the woman sent checks to the men thinking she was paying taxes on her winnings.

Police say they have only recovered $40,000 so far.

“If someone tells you to pay a fee for ‘taxes,’ ‘shipping and handling charges,’ or ‘processing fees’ to get your prize, you’re dealing with a scammer,” the Federal Trade Commission said. (Business Insider)
