Sheriff’s Office Confirms Alarm Reports Are Cicadas
Residents of Newberry County, South Carolina have been calling police to report sirens. However, the Sheriff’s Office recently took to Facebook to explain that residents are hearing the call of male cicadas.
Trillions of cicadas are currently emerging from the ground in the eastern part of the United States. Collectively, their sound can be as loud as jet engines. “Although to some, the noise is annoying, they pose no danger to humans or pets,” Sheriff Lee Foster wrote. “Unfortunately, it is the sounds of nature.” (newser)
