Study: Do We Judge Robots By Gender?
Gender bias seems to transfer into the world of robots! Researchers in University Park, Pennsylvania found that women who felt more powerless were more likely to trust male-looking robots over female-looking ones. However, this bias wasn’t seen in women who felt powerful. When robots looked “cuter” and didn’t resemble a male or female in particular, the bias disappeared. “For businesses that want to mitigate gender stereotypes, they can consider using a cute design for their robots,” researcher Lavi Peng said.
