Two Miami Restaurant Workers Arrested For Dumping Grease In Storm Drain

Miami police arrested Roman Jaquez, 48, and Oscar Brooks Gago, 73, after catching them illegally disposing of cooking grease in a storm drain. The Environmental Crimes Unit investigation began September 22 following an anonymous tip with a photograph. Officers found Jaquez “actively dumping waste into the drain” with Gago nearby matching the photo description. Jaquez told police Gago instructed him to pour grease in the drain as “a regular practice” at their restaurant. Gago admitted directing waste disposal but denied ordering storm drain dumping. Both face charges of “Environmental Crime – Willful Disregard.” Authorities warn that grease dumping contaminates water sources, harms wildlife, clogs sewage systems, and can cause raw sewage overflows into waterways. The substance coats animal feathers and fur, while smothering aquatic plants. (Story URL)
