Identity Sought for Man Wanted for Steak Shoplifting

DALTON, Ga. — The Dalton Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify a man who shoplifted more than $100 in steaks from a local Walmart.

On Monday, January 5th at the Walmart on Shugart Road, the suspect swapped out the barcodes on the items, and then used a self-checkout station to pay for the items at a steep discount, according to the City of Dalton.

They say the man picked out five steaks, 3 ribeye steaks valued at $19.97 each and 2 thin ribeye steaks valued at $23.47 each.

After going to a different grocery aisle, he placed different bar codes on top of the packages.

The suspect then went to the self-checkout, where he scanned the fraudulent bar codes and paid with a gift card.

Each scan showed up as a Duck brand faucet cover, valued at $2.78 for a total of $13.90, while the steaks value was $106.85.

The suspect got into a dark colored Dodge Ram pickup truck with a military veterans license tag, then left the scene.

The tag number is unknown.

The suspect was described as an older white man who wore a blue long sleeved sweatshirt, blue jeans, and a camouflage hat, the City of Dalton says.

They ask if you know this man or have any information about this theft, to contact Officer Christopher Wingate at 706-278-9085, extension 9-641 or by email at cwingate@daltonga.gov.
