Incendiary device attack sparks SWAT standoff in Lakesite
LAKESITE, Tenn. (WDEF) — Authorities in Lakesite responded to a tense situation after an improvised incendiary device attack.
On January 2, 2025, a incendiary device was thrown at a vehicle in the 2200 block of Geneva Trail.
The incident, which occurred around 1:45 p.m., also caused a fire on the front porch of an apartment while residents were inside.
According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), the suspect, identified as Jason Rogers, Jr., was seen removing a security camera from a resident’s porch before launching the incendiary device.
Rogers was reportedly armed with a pistol during the attack.
The fire extinguished itself before emergency crews arrived.
Deputies determined Rogers was still inside his apartment nearby, prompting HCSO to deploy its SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Teams.
As a precaution, nearby residents were evacuated or told to shelter in place.
The Dallas Bay Fire Department and Hamilton County EMS were on standby.
Negotiators managed to establish communication with Rogers, who surrendered without further incident.
He was taken into custody and is facing several charges, including:
- Possession of an incendiary device
- Arson
- Aggravated assault
- Vandalism
- Theft.
Authorities confirmed the scene is now secure, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
No additional details have been released as the investigation continues.
