Innovators visit Chattanooga for inaugural startup Accelerator

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A snow storm passing through the States didn’t stop a group of researchers and innovators from traveling to the Scenic City.

An inaugural program hosted by The Company Lab and Gener8tor is providing opportunities for five startup companies across the world.

They announced their first-ever cohort Thursday for the ‘Sustainable Mobility Accelerator.’

This is providing opportunities and resources for five teams chosen out of a pool of over 100 contenders.

CEO of Co. Lab, Tasia Malakasis said, “The way that we’ve defined sustainable mobility is the future for movement of people, goods, energy, and data.”

One of the founders chosen in the program acknowledged the winter weather that caused him difficulty getting to Chattanooga from California.

“You know whatever it took to be here was necessary, and I think that’s also the attitude of Chattanooga and the locals in Tennessee,” Founder of Marscharge Michael Marczi said.

The founder was caught in the snow storm on his way to Thursday’s event, and was able to stay with a family in Monteagle.

He wanted to give thanks to the May family for their hospitality and extended this gratitude to the greater Chattanooga community.

This gratitude is partly due to the sum of support that is being offered to each of the teams.

The Co. Lab and Gener8tor are offering a $20K investment and access to Chattanooga’s premier technology.

These five teams were chosen from a competitive pool of 145 startups from 25 countries.

They were identified as global startup leaders in transforming the future of mobility.

Founder of Xtelligent, Michael Lim said, “About 25% of all greenhouse gas emitted in the United States comes from vehicular movement on the roadway.” Lim went on to explain how his startup company will impact people locally and across the world.

This Accelerator program offers research and support from government leaders over the duration of 12 weeks.

Each of the startups focuses on forms of sustainable energy and have specific plans for their company.

One researcher is bringing an innovative battery technology all the way from India.

“I’m really excited to be here while deploying the technology in Chattanooga, where there’s snow… Where it’s hot. And we want to see how batteries perform in this space,” Khushboo Shrivastava of Coulomb AI said.

The 12-week program will provide each team with a $20,000 initial investment, followed by the potential for up to $100,000 post-program.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore Chattanooga and all the area has to offer during this inaugural cohort.
