Interstate 24 wreck causes mess and lane shutdowns
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Interstate 24 Eastbound was in disarray as a wreck left a mess on the interstate and sent one driver to the hospital.
It caused a mess early Saturday morning and sent one of the truck drivers to the hospital.
UPDATE: One lane has been cleared of debris and is open. Crews are still working to remove the remaining debris in order to open both travel lanes.
EARLIER:
Around 6 a.m., members of the Chattanooga Fire Department responded to I-24 Eastbound at mile marker 175 on a two-vehicle accident.
Chattanooga Police responded to the motor vehicle crash and made contact with a 46-year-old man with non-life threatening injuries in an overturned truck.

There was a tractor trailer full of trash and a tanker truck transporting canola oil.
The overturned semi-truck was hauling garbage and contents were strewn across the travel lanes.
The truck carrying trash overturned on the bridge, scattering debris all over the eastbound lanes and onto Browns Ferry Road.
The driver was taken to the hospital with injuries.
Eastbound lanes are shut down for the time being.
Traffic is being diverted onto Browns Ferry Road and then back onto the interstate.
Firefighters stopped a diesel fuel leak from the overturned truck.

CFD’s Special Operations Chief and several fire companies have been on the scene, along with TDOT and law enforcement.
A private company will be conducting cleanup of the trash and fuel spill.
