Ironman Traffic Impacts this weekend
CHATTANOOGA/WALKER COUNTY (WDEF) – This is IRONMAN weekend and that means there will be some traffic interruptions around the riverfront, through downtown and into Walker County on Sunday.
Here is what to expect:
THURSDAY- SATURDAY:
The IRONMAN Expo area is open all day, beginning on Thursday on the Chattanooga Green
SATURDAY MORNING:
IRONKID’S race at 9 AM on Riverfront Parkway
SUNDAY:
The full race begins at 7:30 AM and will last through the afternoon. Here are the impacted areas
TENNESSEE RIVER CLOSED
The river is closed to to boats from the Dam to Ross’s Landing from 5 AM- 10:30 AM, including boat rams at the Riverpark and Rivermont.
Swimmers will be in the River from 7:30 to 8:30
DOWNTOWN
Lanes will be closed for bikers between 8 AM & 6 PM Riverfront Parkway, West 20th Street, Broad Street, Market Street, and Alton Park Boulevard.
Runners will be on Riverwalk, Amnicola Highway, the Veterans Bridge, Barton Avenue, Hixson Pike, and Riverview Road between 12:25 PM and 12:40 AM.
NORTH GEORGIA
The 116 mile bike ride goes from the River down Broad, through St. Elmo into Chattanooga Valley. It continues down Highway 193, makes a loop through Pigeon Cove and then back up 193/St.Elmo.
