Ivy Academy Students Learn About Wildfires
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF)- Students at Tennessee’s first environmental Charter school have had a ring-side seat to the fire-fighting efforts going on at Mowbray mountain.
Kids at Ivy Academy have not only had to deal with heavy smoke as wildfires broke out, but they’ve seen the helicopters dropping water and the scores of firefighters on the mountain everyday for several weeks.
The Florida Forestry Service has taken-over the day to day efforts, and the staff at Ivy Academy invited them to speak to the classes.
“We really wanted to reach out to our younger folks and the schools, too and you know, talk to the kids about what is actually going on so they have a little better sense of the totality of you know what we’re doing here in Tennessee, and kind of reassure them and educate them on wildfires and, uh, so they have a better concept.”
Ivy academy is a tuition-free public charter middle and high school.
