‘Jail and Bail” raises funds for Heritage Park inclusive playground

Hamilton County Commissioner Lee Helton and Collegedale Commission candidate Billy Burnette being “arrested”, so they can be “bailed” out to raise money for an inclusive playground at Jack Benson Heritage Park.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)-Several local leaders were arrested Thursday… for a good cause.
The Jail and Bail Fundraiser was held at the Jack Benson Heritage Park in East Brainerd.
The fundraiser was for the proposed Harvest Inclusive Playground, which would be the first of its kind in Hamilton County being a hundred percent ADA compliant.
Their goal is to secure the equipment needed by the end of the month as the price of the project has skyrocketed to two million dollars.
Their goal for this fundraiser was to raise $200,000 to provide a safe place to play for every child.
Capt. Skylar Phillips of the Chattanooga Fire Department and the project’s organizer, said of the project that “There’s not any stairs that go anywhere who have disabilities can’t reach. It’s going to have sensory items for children with development and intellectual disabilities and things like that. So something of this size, there’s nothing of this magnitude anywhere in our area.”
There are already ongoing infrastructure improvements ongoing by Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors.
If you missed Thursday’s fundraiser, there’s still an online link to donate.
