Jasper Honors Fallen Heroes Today
JASPER, Tenn. (WDEF) – Memorial Day is a time to remember and honor those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
The annual Memorial Day Ceremony hosted by Jasper VFW Post 6362 and its Auxiliary was held Monday morning at the Marion County Courthouse Square.
After strong storms moved through the area Sunday, crews worked quickly to clean up debris, including a fallen tree near the courthouse, just in time for the event to go on as planned at 11 a.m.
The ceremony began with a presentation of colors, followed by patriotic songs that filled the square.
Among the dignitaries was Chief Master Sergeant Michael Tedford, who spent 30 years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force, including eight years as communications chief on Air Force One.
County and state dignitaries were in attendance, joined by members of the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard, as well as local Scouts and Cub Scouts, each playing a role in this solemn and meaningful tribute.
Organizers say it’s important to pass on the tradition of honoring service and sacrifice to the next generation, and today’s turnout showed that Jasper is doing just that.
