Juvenile arrested, faces several traffic charges including DUI

HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Several juveniles evaded arrest after an attempted traffic stop in Hamilton County on Wednesday. One juvenile was arrested.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said a deputy tried to pull over a car on Bonny Oaks Drive at around midnight on Wednesday. They said that car had five to six people inside.

The car fled the scene and a deputy followed, while the car reached speeds up to 90 mph.

At some point, HCSO said the car slowed down and some of the passengers got out of the car three separate times.

A deputy witnessed one passenger get out of the car with a firearm.

HCSO finally stopped the car and took the driver, who was under 18 and not named, into custody.

They also detained and later released an adult occupant, who was also not named.

Deputies searched the car to find a loaded handgun. The deputy also said they smelled a “strong odor of alcohol” on the suspects.

The sheriff’s office said they searched for the juveniles who bailed but could not find them.

Authorities charged the juvenile driver with the following:

  • DUI
  • Felony evading
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm while intoxicated
  • Speeding
  • Stop sign violation
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Driving without a valid license

There were no injuries in this incident, according to the HCSO.
