Kidney for Cooper

COLLEGEDALE, Tennessee (WDEF)- “Basically, my kidneys don’t work and I need a new one,” said Moore.

Tami Lloyd says her Seventeen-year-old son Cooper Moore has struggled since before birth with chronic kidney issues blocking his urinary system.

“Over 17 years of time this condition causes kidney failure. The left kidney for Cooper does not function any longer, the right kidney is enlarged and ultimately they both failed,” said Llyod.

I can’t describe it, it would be really amazing to have a new kidney because then I’ll feel better. I get a whole new, bunch of new doors, opportunities open.

She explained how over the past few years Moore’s kidney functions are becoming even worse and now Moore needs a kidney replacement.

“Kids tend to fail when they hit puberty so I’m Cooper about 15 to 16 his kidney functions the numbers that one kidney couldn’t keep up with his rapid growth,” said Llyod.

Moore is hoping to avoid dialysis but they say it might not be possible if a donor isn’t found because after everyone in the family tested, no one in the Moore family is a match. After all, Moore needs a type O match.

Lloyd said getting her son a new kidney would be like giving her son a new opportunity in life.

“Me as a mom. Well, I see him every day and the effect it has on him not just the kidney failure now but as it’s changed over the years and just seeing them feel better I mean it would be giving my son a new life,” said Llyod.

So that I wouldn’t have to go through dialysis or any other further complications.

Lloyd asks everyone to think about the meaning of becoming an organ donor because even if you are not a match for her son you can be a match for someone else.

Moore is on the UNOS Kidney Transplant waiting list at Vanderbilt.
