Kitten rescued from highway bridge by Red Bank police officer recovering after surgery

RED BANK, Tenn. (WDEF) —  A Red Bank police officer made an unexpected discovery last weekend while returning from the jail.

Around 4 a.m., he spotted a small animal on the median of the Highway 153 bridge.

At first glance, he thought it was a baby opossum, but after turning around to further investigate, he discovered it to be a kitten.

Despite having an injured lip and a clear deformity in her leg, the kitten was friendly and greeted the officer with purrs.

According to the Pet Placement Center (PPC), it appeared she had been thrown from a moving vehicle.

The officer brought the kitten home for the night and delivered her to the PPC the next morning.

She was quickly sent to an emergency veterinary clinic, where X-rays revealed a broken femur in her back right leg.

The kitten underwent surgery this past Wednesday to have the injured leg amputated.

She’s now named Bridget, in reference to the bridge where she was found, and is currently recovering in a caring foster home.

Donations are being taken for ER and surgery bills.
