L.J. Adams Trying to be Sane Running Cleveland’s Insane Up-Tempo Offense

Cleveland, TN-(WDEF-TV) Cleveland has the fastest offense in high school football in the state of Tennessee and that’s is due to head coach Chandler Tygard.

But with an insane offense, your quarterback has to be sane, in and out of the pocket.

Reporter:”You almost score 75 points and you’re no where near where you want to be on  offense?”

Said Tygard: No. Nowhere near where we want to be. Yeah.”

Despite Cleveland’s offense not being quite where coach Chandler Tygard wants it to be, Cleveland quarterback L. J. Adams has taken big steps in the new offense.

Said Tygard:”I remember talking to one of my teammates in class and the Clinton week, and he was like, I don’t know. I have a special feeling that it’s going to click this week.

Adams has had to do a lot of adjusting since last year, switching from a player who caught the passes to the one who’s throwing them.

Said Tygard:”He’s doing great in the system. We’re nowhere near where we would like to be offensively, but he’s getting better and better each week and just getting more comfortable, especially with the new offensive lineman and new receiver. So we’re growing each week, and we’re hopefully this is another week in that direction. And then when we hit region play, we really got to get going.”

Tygard’s up tempo offense relies on the quarterback, but the system also puts the quarterback in a place to succeed.

Said Adams:”Really, we just sat down and we just talked about the plays. He listed them out, and he just told me my reads, and it just went smoothly and makes the opposing team be uncomfortable. We just go real fast. So we snap the ball every ten to 13 seconds is the goal, and we get as many plays in as we can. We average about 85 plays a game of offense.”
