Lafayette CitizenS asked to Conserve Water
LAFAYETTE, Georgia (WDEF)
The City of Lafayette is in desperate need of rain.
The local and state government are advising residents to conserve water in any way possible.
“Due to the fact the rainfall has been well below average for the year we decided it was a good idea to remind people in the area…our water customers this act is in place”, said City Manager David Hamilton.
They have enforced they Georgia Water Stewardship Act.
“In an abundance of caution we’ve made the decision to just try and remind people..try to make them think about the water that they’re using on a daily basis.”
The act allows citizens to do any planting, growing, managing, or maintain grounds between the hours of 4 PM and 10 AM.
By anyone whose water is supplied by a water system permitted by the Environmental Protection Division.
“It’s very typical when it’s been this dry when it’s been this lack of rainfall your grass starts turning brown.”
Something many residents know all too well.
“This weather has affected my lawn tremendously. we have probably 20 cypress trees that we’ve had for years and they are dying”, said Pam Maples.
Maples said she’s conserving as much as they can.
“We have cut back on our water conservation because realize that with no rain it’s going to hurt everyone if we don’t get some rain soon.”
