LaFayette Mother of Two Was Victim of a Premeditated Murder

RINGGOLD, GA. (WDEF-TV) A Hixson woman is in the Catoosa county jail tonight charged with the brutal murder of a woman she had never met before.
After a 6 day investigation Sheriff Gary Sisk called a news conference Wednesday to describe a tragic and bizarre chain of events last Friday that left two children without a mother.

SHERIFF GARY SISK "Catherine Goins killed Natalia Roberts because she wanted her baby"

That motive is a far cry from what investigators had expected on September 19th when they responded to the call as 227 Smoketree Circle in Ringgold. They were told Catherine Goins shot an intruder at the home of her former boyfriend, Tony Richards.

SHERIFF GARY SISK "Once at the residence, Natalia was going down a flight of stairs when Catherine Goins shot her in the back of the head with a 380-caliber handgun. The two had not met before this day."

The sheriff would not comment of where the two women met, but said Goins promised Roberts , who lived in Walker county, baby clothes. After the shooting Goins called Tony Richards and told him she had shot someone. Richards told her to call 9-1-1.

SHERIFF GARY SISK "Instead, Catherine Goins took Natalia’s two children that were at the scene …a 3 year old and a 3-week old …put them in her car and left the residence."

Richards talked her into returning to talk with officers.

SHERIFF SISK "Catherine Goins had been living a ruse that she was pregnant with her most recent boyfriend’s baby, but he had recently learned she was not pregnant and left her."

The sheriff says it all happened because Goins wanted Roberts’ 3 week old child.

SHERIFF SISK "Its very shocking. We don’t hear about these kind of cases in our area very much."

Goins faces charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, tempering with evidence.and possession of a firearm.
She was arrested last night in Marion county, Tennessee and has waived extradition.

Roberts’ two children are now with relatives.
Goins is held without bond.
