Lake Winnie Celebrates 100 Years of Thrills, Smiles, and Summer Tradition

It started with a boat ride and a big dream. A century later, Lake Winnepesaukah—better known as Lake Winnie—is still bringing joy to generations of families.

This week, officials from across Georgia gathered in Rossville to celebrate the beloved amusement park’s 100th anniversary. The milestone was marked with speeches, an official state proclamation, and a nod to the park’s enduring legacy in the region.

Local leaders, state representatives, and amusement industry figures honored Lake Winnie not just for its longevity, but for the role it’s played in shaping tourism and summer memories across the South.

“What I’m seeing over the years is that with each screaming breath, it exhales worries. Troubles slip away out of their minds, and they let in cheer—a sort of healing that takes place in ways science has yet to understand,” said Lake Winnie Director Tennyson Dickinson. “Fun and smiles. That’s why we’re here. 100 years—and we’re still counting.”

The celebration is a reminder that while the rides have evolved and the crowds have grown, the heart of Lake Winnie remains the same: a place for families to laugh, let go, and make memories that last a lifetime.

And even after a century, the park shows no signs of slowing down.
