Lakers Take Former Vol Dalton Knecht With 17th Overall Pick in NBA Draft
The NBA Draft didn’t go the way former Vols star Dalton Knecht expected on Wednesday evening.
But Knecht wound up going to the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the premiere franchises in the league.
Draft experts thought Knecht would be among the top ten players taken, but he dropped into the Lakers lap with the 17th overall selection.
He likely fell because he’s 23-years-old, which is kind of old for an NBA draft prospect.
Knecht is the reigning SEC player of the year.
In his one and only season at Tennessee, he helped carry the Vols to the SEC regular season title and a spot in the Elite Eight.
Knecht didn’t receive a D-one scholarship offer coming out of high school, but thanks to his banner year at Tennessee, he wound up going first round of the NBA draft to the Lakers.
