Lanny Thomas Wins Senate Runoff
TRION, GA. (WDEF) – Republican Lanny Thomas won the special runoff election for Georgia State Senate District 53 on April 7.
Thomas defeated Democrat Jack Zibluk by a wide margin, receiving about sixty-nine percent of the vote compared with Zibluk’s thirty-one percent.
During his campaign, Lanny Thomas emphasized support for small businesses, public safety, and local schools.
He also highlighted infrastructure improvements, rural healthcare access, agriculture, and veterans’ services as key areas he would focus on in office.
The runoff followed a March special election in which no candidate received a majority of votes, triggering the April contest.
The seat became vacant after former State Senator Colton Moore resigned to run in the special election for Georgia’s 14th Congressional District.
Georgia Senate District 53 includes Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, and Walker counties, and part of Floyd County
Thomas will take over the District 53 seat in the Georgia State Senate following his election.
