Last Contract for Chickamauga Lock Project Awarded

The US Army Corps of Engineers reports they have awarded the last contract for the Chickamauga Lock project.

The company will build the downstream approach walls and then breach the existing dam to connect it to the new lock.

But it won’t happen soon.

They ae still waiting on the upstream approach wall to be complete.

It is about 76% done.

The lock is the water elevator that lifts boats and barges from the river to the lake level.

When it is finally finished, the new lock can handle nine jumbo barges at a time.

The current lock can only move one.
