Cars filled almost every space in parking lots with shoppers in search for gifts for family and friends.
There are only 4 days left it can be a bit daunting if you’re just now stepping into stores to cross items off your gift list.
The National Financial Education non-profit released some tips and tricks to help with last minute shopping that will save you time and money.
Make sure you have your shopping list. With you and make sure stick to your budget.
When you create the list think of each item you want to get for the people on your list and the cost of each those gifts.
If you have something in mind you want to buy, it helps you avoid buying something not wanted or needed.
You may want to consider setting a time limit.
Determine how much time it will take for you to pick up the items you need and set an alarm on your phone to keep track of time.
If you allow yourself to shop with time constraints, you’re less likely to spend money on unnecessary items.
You shouldn’t just rely on credit cards to purchase gifts.
Research shows that you tend to spend more when you pull out the plastic.
If you can, try to use cash, that way you can see your money really leaving your wallet.
There is still time to shop online.
Many retailers are giving customers the guarantee that their gifts will arrive on their doorstep just in time for Christmas if they order by a certain date.
If you’ve already made a purchase on an item a few weeks before and you see it’s now on sale, many retailers will refund you the difference.
Receipts will also come in handy just in case you need to return or exchange an item.
