Last suspect in Chickamauga Halloween murder turns himself in

UPDATE (11/20/2024):  The last remaining suspect in the Chickamauga Halloween murder has turned himself.

According to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, Brayden Whatley surrendered to authorities at the Walker County Jail early Wednesday morning.

He is being charged with Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Armed Robbery.

Whatley and three other suspects were wanted in connection to the murder of Dakota Bottomlee that occurred on Halloween night.


CHICKAMAUGA, Georgia (WDEF) – Investigators have charged four people with the murder of a young man in Chickamauga on Halloween.

First Responders were called to a home at 1964 Johnson Road for a cardiac arrest, but they found Dakota Bottomlee shot multiple times.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Within a week, investigators issued warrants for our people ranging in age from 18 to 23.

Three have since been arrested:

  • Kayla Michelle McClure, 21
  • James Logan Darty, 21
  • Marcuse Allen Chambers, 18

23 year old Brayden Whaley remains at large.

Neither GBI nor Walker Sheriff’s Officers are revealing the motive for the shooting at this point.
