LATEST: Pedestrian hit in Dalton

LATEST: Dalton Police say the teen pedestrian hit Thursday night by an SUV in Dalton is awake, alert and talking.

Bibian Santana remains in a Chattanooga hospital and is doing better than expected.

Officials say her injuries appear to be limited to broken bones.

UPDATE: Dalton Police say the victim was a 15-year-old female Dalton High JROTC student.

She was on her way to the Christmas Parade.

Police say she was walking westbound across Thornton Avenue and made it across the first set of lanes, but was hit by an SUV in the southbound lanes.

It knocked her to the ground, and then she was hit again by another car.

Officials say she had broken bones including the femur and an ankle.

Emergency crews took her to a local hospital, and then she was airlifted to a Chattanooga hospital as a precaution.

Dalton Police are investigating, but no charges have been filed at this time.

Dalton, GA (WDEF) – A woman was hit on Waugh Street and Thornton Avenue Thursday night in Dalton.

Dalton Police say she was trying to cross the street to go to the Christmas parade.

Officials say from early indications, it looks like she tried to cross in front of oncoming traffic.

She was taken to the hospital with leg, ankle and hip injuries.

Her condition is not known.
