Lauren Alaina branches out into acting by starring in a movie

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF) – North Georgia’s Lauren Alaina is making her acting debut in East Tennessee.

A feature film based on her latest single has begun shooting in Knoxville.

And Lauren will play the leading role.

“The Road Less Traveled” is the story of a young woman, about to be married, who returns home to the fictional town of Harmony, Tennessee.

But when she bumps into her old beau, she wonders why she ever left Harmony.

The movie is based on the single she released this summer (her most successful so far, peaking at 22 on Billboard Country chart), that was inspired by her own battle with an eating disorder while she was on American Idol.

In an exclusive report in Billboard, Lauren says “I am so excited to be doing a movie. This is a whole new world for me. I’m learning so much every day. We have such an awesome cast and crew and I can’t wait for everyone to see this new side of me.”

The director is Blair Hayes (Bubble Boy) and written by Michael Shear and Samantha Shear (Killer App).

Lauren can learn her new trade from veteran actress Charlene Tilton, who co-stars.

Tilton played Lucy Ewing in both the original and updated versions of Dallas.

She plays the character, Babs.

Curt Willis of the Visit Knoxville Film Office tells Billboard that Knoxville is working hard to become a competitive option for film production in the south.

There is no release date yet for the movie.
