Lawmakers pitch to eliminate sales tax on firearms, ammo the weekend before hunting season starts
The pitch to create a tax free holiday for gun in Alabama is getting an odd twist.
Alabama lawmakers are considering a bill to lift the sales tax on firearms, ammo and hunting gear on the weekend before hunting season begins in August.
The tax holiday could save consumers between 30 and 90 dollars on the purchase of a new weapon.
But a Second Amendment group in the state says the bill doesn’t go far enough.
The group “Bama Carry” has sent out an email asking lawmakers to totally eliminate the sales tax on weapons as unconstitutional.
Florida and Mississippi has similar gun tax holidays.
But no state has totally eliminated taxes on firearms.
The bill as it is still must pass the Alabama Senate.
