Lawmakers press for Signal Mountain road repair before it slides off

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Senator Bo Watson and Representative Patsy Hazlewood are putting the pressure on the Tennessee Department of Transportation for quick repairs on a Signal Mountain road.

Highway 127 has suffered repeated damage due to heavy rainfall.

There are cracks in the pavement and falling rocks pose a continuous hazard for drivers.

Hazlewood and Watson are concerned the road may collapse, like Highway 68 did earlier this year.

The original plan to fix the road was included in last year’s IMPROVE Act passed by the general assembly, but progress has not been made.

Sen. Bo Watson told us “A few months ago, the same kind of road, highway 68 up above Spring City fell off the side of the mountain. We’ve been watching that progress and because of that we just wanted to heighten our sensitivity and TDOT’s understanding that this is a really important issue to us here in Hamilton county, particularly those folks up on Signal Mountain.”

The lawmakers are working on a solution to move forward.
