Learn if your child is ready for kindergarten through survey

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Parents of young children in Hamilton County are being asked to evaluate if their kids are ready for kindergarten.

This is being conducted through a survey by Chattanooga 2.0.

Their goal is to find out what knowledge and skills upcoming kindergartners are coming into school with.

They believe the results help schools develop programs to fill gaps before school starts in August.

“The feedback that we’ve received from teachers is that one of the biggest things is screen time and lacking fine motor skills,” said Jennifer Andrews, director of early childhood development. “So, doing this with your digital device versus playing with Playdough, playing in the sand and using your hands, because that helps develop little kids’ hand muscles for future writing.”

The survey takes only about 10 to 15 minutes.

Chattanooga 2.0 will then email digital resources for preparing children for kindergarten to participants. Plus, the first 50 participants will receive a $50 gift card.
