Lee Highway Chattanooga shooting memorial plans

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – The Lee Highway Memorial Committee announces plans for a permanent memorial honoring the 5 service members killed in the attack on July 16th; along with honoring the first responders.

A flagpole and concrete base for a bronze plaque are already in place.

The plaque will be added at a later date.

Construction workers are already working on walls and benches to complete the memorial by August 15th.

There will be a special dedication ceremony schedules for the 16th at 4 p.m.

Chattanooga Police, military personnel and first responders will be attending the ceremony.

The family members of the fallen have been invited.

The public is also welcome to attend.

The Lee Highway Memorial Committee also announced Monday what will happen to the generous items left at the Lee Highway makeshift memorial.

Officials say family members of the fallen have been invited to collect and keep anything special to them.

The National Medal of Honor Museum was also invited to collect some items to be housed in the museum.

The Daughters of the American Revolution offered to collect the remaining flags and small tokens to distribute between local schools and other appropriate local organizations.
