Legendary coach Gary Rankin takes over at Boyd Buchanan

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Seventeen-time state champion Gary Rankin is the new head coach of Boyd Buchanan football after resigning from the same post at Alcoa earlier this month.

Rankin won 13 state titles and 215 games with Alcoa in his 16 years there. When he resigned, he made a point of saying he’s not retiring but wanting to get closer to family, preferably in the Chattanooga area.

His 17 state championships is a TSSAA record, while his 467-78 overall record is fourth best among active high school coaches in the United States.

Rankin takes over the Bucs program from Jeremy Bosken, who left in early February to start a brand new football program at a Christian school near his hometown of Johnson City.

The school will officially introduce Rankin as the Bucs coach Monday in a press conference.
