Lightning strikes Chattanooga home, attic catches fire

UPDATE:

Late Monday night, the Chattanooga Fire Department said two firefighters were injured while fighting this house fire.

Around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, CFD said the two firefighters had been treated and released from the hospital.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Lightning struck a home in Chattanooga and caused a fire on Monday. This happened when storms rolled through the city in the evening.

The Chattanooga Fire Department responded to the house fire at 6:18 p.m. on August 28. Lightning had struck a house in the 1100 block of Longholm Court.

CFD said the fire was in the attic, but they made an interior attack and stopped the flames from spreading.

The fire department said they had the fire under control by 6:42 p.m.

The fire did not spread past the attic, but firefighters said it caused extensive damage to the home. That includes smoke and water damage.

Nobody was home when lightning struck, so there were no injuries.

A witness called 911 after lightning struck.
