Lily Soto couldn’t “Say No To This” role in Hamilton
Tennessee native Lily Soto returns to the Volunteer State to star in the touring hit musical “Hamilton” at the Memorial Auditorium as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds.
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Lily Soto has put in quite the “work” to land her dream role as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds in the Angelica Tour of Hamilton, now at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium in Chattanooga.
Raised in Nashville, Lily Soto never threw away her shot for her dreams and waited for it for several years. Her audition process started when she was a sophomore in NYU where she submitted her audition tape for the Philip Tour during an open call. After some time, she got call backs to audition for the duel role. But ultimately, she lost the role due to being too young and still in school. Through perfect timing, she had the chance to re-audition when the Angelica Tour issued an open call for auditions. Her audition tape resubmission earned her a personal invite to audition, and she landed her dream role as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds just a month before graduating from NYU, marking this her first role fresh out of college.
Soto’s role is the only female duel role in Hamilton where she plays polar opposites from an naïve little sister to the sultry mistress of Hamilton.
“What’s cool is you kind of see these two different women who are extremely young, but come from completely two different situations especially financially. Peggy (Schuyler) comes from a very affluent family and she’s experiencing the world for the first time as this young girl. And then you have Maria Reynolds who is in a much sadder difficult situation,” Lily Soto says on her duel roles.
Additionally, she is also one of the understudies for Eliza Hamilton.
This is the first run of Hamilton in Chattanooga brought by the Tivoli Theatre Foundation. It is also the longest play run in the Tivoli Theatre Foundation’s history.
“I hope everyone enjoys the performance and has a great time. What I personally take from the show is just what kind of legacy do you want to leave and what kind of world do you want to leave behind,” Soto says on the show.
