Local alumni upset with Tennessee State board decision

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Some local alumni of Tennessee State University are voicing disapproval of the state’s decision to remove its Board of Trustees.

The decision was made earlier this week as state Republicans argued that the school has mishandled their finances.

TSU in a statement denied money mismanagement.

Eric Atkins, who is the co-chair of the Unity Group, graduated from TSU in 2002.

He believes this decision was made without the full consultation of the thousands of alumni across the state including in our area.

Atkins said, “You have people of all walks of life that are right here in the Chattanooga area that you could have relied on that you would have been able to get the best insight into what recourse needed to be taken.”

Governor Bill Lee has appointed 8 new members for the school’s board that have to be approved by the state legislature.
