Local ballot issues in North Georgia elections
GEORGIA (WDEF) – Polls are closing in Georgia, as voters have made their choice in major races, like the mayor of Atlanta, or one of the nine special elections statewide to fill seats of those who decided not to finish their terms.
But there were local ballot issues that attracted attention in north Georgia.
In Dade, voters are deciding in Trenton a liquor by the drink question, along with two city commissioners and a TSPLOST for roads.
And in Walker county, local leaders were also pushing a TSPLOST for roads. It’s passage becomes more problematic because of the county’s high debt and a property tax increase already passed this year.
LaFayette and Chickamauga have city council seats on the ballot—-Catoosa county also has two.
But in Dalton, a 50-million dollar general obligation bond will be decided. Its purpose is to build a grade 6-7 school. Overcrowding is a major issue there.
Dalton high school has more than 1900, while the only middle school has 1800. But a yes vote would raise taxes.
There’s an E-SPLOST already in play in Dalton, but those funds are already committed to school issues.
Whitfield county voters also decided the District 4 state representative race, along with two alderman positions. Two school board seats will be decided , and two other races in Cohutta.
