Local coach inducted into national Hall of Fame

A legendary high school football coach from our area is headed to another Hall of Fame.

Retired Murphy High coach David Gentry will join this year’s class for the National Federation of State High School Association.

Gentry racked up 426 wins to become the all-time winningest coach in North Carolina.

And that ranks in the top 15 nationally.

He won nine state titles at Murphy.

Gentry’s class will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this summer in Salt Lake City.
