Local girl organizations celebrate “Day of the Girl” in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – More than 1,000 students from Girls Preparatory School, Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy and Girls Inc. gathered Wednesday evening to celebrate “Day of the Girl.”

Last year, Mayor Tim Kelly and Mayor Weston Wamp declared October 25 as “Day of the Girl” in Chattanooga.

They acknowledged the importance of having these girl-centered organizations in Chattanooga.

This year’s partnership with these organizations is meant to build connections with the girls.

“We actually built this day off of the International Day of the Girl that came earlier in October. And last year, Mayor Wamp and Mayor Kelly proclaimed October 25 the Day of the Girl. We are excited today to come together and celebrate this day,” said Lauren Swanson, Director of Belonging and Community Engagement for GPS.

The girls who attended were able to bond through games and dancing.
