Local nonprofit holds fish fry fundraiser to help students

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A local nonprofit held a fish fry on Saturday morning to raise funds for underserved students in the area.

Reach One Teach One UCA has taken students to the Shaw Memorial Basketball Tournament in Atlanta for the past five years.

The fish fry was held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  at Calvary Church of the Nazarene to raise funds for the event.

“I love it because I’m an athlete myself and the coaches that we have are great. They make sure the kids are fine, eat good, all that. And I feel like sometimes kids don’t have this opportunity. Like to be able to go out, go on trips, be able to play with the team like this,” student athlete Carlicia Williams said.

Reach One Teach One is an early intervention program for children ages five to 14.

Their mission is to help children and provide them with meaningful experiences on the team and off.

Three teams will compete this year from July 21 to 23.

After the tournament, the team will head to Six Flags.

To get involved, you can donate in-person or contact the organization online.
