Local surgeon celebrates patients with upcoming documentary
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Dr. Larry Sargent is a local surgeon who has helped many children with facial deformities.
He has impacted the lives of many individuals through his surgical techniques.
Sargent Plastic Surgery held a cleft and craniofacial picnic for patients and families on Saturday afternoon.
The office holds an annual event for former and current patients to enjoy fun activities and to follow up with one another’s successes.
“They get to communicate with each other, talk about what they’re doing, and we get to see their progress because over the years, you can see how they grow and how they progress,” Dr. Larry Sargent said.
Along with the annual event, the office looks forward to an upcoming documentary that will feature Sargent and three of his patients on their journeys in reconstructive surgeries.
“It’s real important to have the treatment of these children, and craniofacial surgery is a relatively new field in the field of plastic surgery … It’s provided care that was not available in the past,” Sargent said.
“I think it’s worked to improve their lives. It gives kids that have facial deformities a second chance in life … So I think that’s a huge impact on giving back to our patients and helping them have more productive, active, healthy, lives,” Sargent said.
The documentary will include technical aspects where Dr. Sargent will talk about operations as well as personal notes from families.
It will be featured in film festivals around the country.
Sargent has a full-time practice in Chattanooga and has helped many families with craniofacial surgeries.
“It’s impacted us a lot with all three of our kids having a condition that needed a surgery. It was really just amazing that we had Dr. Sargent so close by and that we could have him be involved in all of our kids lives,” parent Katie Pedde said.
“And just have a comfort in knowing that he was in charge and he knew what he was doing. We had full confidence in him,” Pedde said.
The community can look forward to the upcoming screening of ‘Beautiful Faces: The Wonderful Story of Dr. Larry Sargent’ at the the Tennessee International Film Festival on August 6.
