Local Travelers React to Latest Missing Airliner

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – Ray Proffitt, with Groome Transportation, says, "Everybody’s talking about it. They’re concerned and just wondering what is going over in that part of the world."

Most people traveling through Chattanooga to get to other parts of the world are saying, "not again."

For the second time in less than a year, a jetliner has disappeared over Southeast Asia without explanation.

And in July, a Malaysia Airline flight was shot down over Ukraine.

Three big aviation catastrophes happened in 2014.

Lisa Pope, a traveler, says, "I’m scared to fly now, so.

Pope is headed to Germany where she’s working as a dental technician with the Army.

She says if she was stationed anywhere near Singapore, where this last plane went missing, she would not go.

Pope adds, "No, and I won’t. I’m too scared."

She’s now calling on AirAsia to figure out what’s going on.

Pope adds, "I just think maybe they need to take better care of their people and make sure that they know that where the plane are at all times."

Gloria Dzialo, on the other hand, thinks these problems will ultimately make the airline safer.

Dzialo adds, "When something like this happens they seem to look at the aircraft a little bit more closely to make sure people are safe and secure."

Even though Dzialo says she’ll still fly internationally, she plans on praying before each flight.

Dzialo adds, "I just talk to the man upstairs and pray for a safe flight home."

According to CBS News, the head of the Indonesian search operations says he believes the latest plane that’s missing is at the bottom of the Java Sea, but he won’t speculate as to what went wrong.
