Local volunteer fire departments receive state grants
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Six volunteer fire departments in Hamilton County received grants on Friday.
The grants come from the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, and the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The fire departments received these grants during a luncheon at Chattanooga State Community College.
The Hamilton County Office of Emergency Mangement (HCOEM) announced the grants on Friday.
Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue received more than $12,000 in grant money to purchase new cliff/cave rescue items. This will replace aging rope, pulleys, rope hardware and backpacks.
The Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department received more than $46,000 to purchase air packs for fire personnel.
Mowbray Volunteer Fire Department was awarded more than $17,000 to purchase Swiftwater rescue dry/wet suits, gloves and flashlights.
The Sale Creek Volunteer Fire Department received more than $54,000 to purchase upgraded air packs for fire personnel.
Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department was awarded more than $8,000 for the purchase of a HURST Strong arm, which is a tool to easily lift, cut, spread and breach doors.
Lastly, the Waldens Ridge Emergency Service received more than $12,000 to purchase new thermal imaging cameras.
HCOEM congratulated the volunteer fire services on their grants and thanked them for their service.
