Local Voters Protest The Gov’t Shutdown on Social Media Sites

Brian Roberson admits he held nothing back when posting about the government shutdown on Facebook.

Roberson adds, "I said the government needs to grow up and stop acting like little children."

Anger and frustration over the government can be seen all over social media in the form of hashtags and tweets.

According to Twitter, Tennessee actually ranks in the top 25 states talking about the shutdown.

Taylor Davis, a social media user, says, "Congress is kind of failing us. They’re not doing their job."

Other tweets include, "#Dear Congress more like #Dear President Why can’t you compromise as well."

Christina Nelson, another social media user says, "I think it’s more of a venting thing."

But do your voices get heard?

We called the White House and this what they had to say.

"You’ve reached the executive office of the president. We apologize, but due to the lapse in federal funding, we are unable to take your call."

Nelson adds, "They say they monitor, but I don’t think they pay too much attention to what you personally feel or have to say about it."

Voters say it makes you think if we are not getting through to our world leaders through social media, and writing a formal letter is out of the question, how are we getting our voices heard?
