Locals Celebrate National “We Back the Blue” Day
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Several local residents are joining millions in a national campaign to Back the Blue.
Monday, Aug. 1, 2016, is being recognized as “We Back the Blue” day, to show support to local police departments after the recent number of community-police incidents nationwide. “I think right now this community feels like its law enforcement are at risk,” said Chief Fred Fletcher, with the Chattanooga Police Department, “And they want to make sure that we know that the community cares about us and supports us”.
Chattanoogans also held events over the weekend to back those in blue. Saturday afternoon, dozens held signs in the North Shore area, and spent the day hand delivering cards, water, snacks, hugs, and prayers to those who wear a badge.
Today, several local businesses offered free or discounted meals to law enforcement who showed their ID.
