Lola’s story is becoming a disturbing trend in Hamilton County

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – A dog that only wants to sit on a lap and wag it’s tail is now available for adoption after it’s original owners left it for dead in a chicken coop.

Two weeks ago, 8-year old Lola the Beagle mix was found left for dead inside a chicken coop with no food or water. Humane Educational Society animal control officers are certain she had been left alone for an entire week.

The background story according to the Humane Educational Society:

Animal Protection Officers received a call about a group of abandoned animals. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a family packing their bags and heading out of town. The family assured officers that they were simply moving and planned to take some of their animals with them and re-home the rest.

Officers followed up a week later and found the home empty and no indication any pets had been left behind. Officer Tim Checket decided to take a further look on a hunch and searched a bit deeper into the woods behind the home.

He found Lola inside the coop with no food or water. She was suffering from severe glaucoma in one of her eyes. Doctors eventually had to remove the eye.

Lola’s story is just an example of a growing trend in Hamilton County.

“More and more people are leaving and just leaving their residence and leaving animal behind. We had a couple here and there but all of a sudden now we had Lola’s story. We have another story that happened overnight where two more dogs were abandoned for almost three weeks in their house. This is really becoming a problem,” said Humane Educational Society director Bob Citrullo.

Lola is now ready for adoption. If anyone is interested in proving Lola with a new home, they can contact the Humane Educational Society of Hamilton County at (423) 624-5302.
