Lookout Mountain Conservancy plans to add new property to roster

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Lookout Mountain Conservancy signed a contract that will allow them to preserve a massive parcel of land.

The land on Hawkins Ridge sits just behind Forest Hills Cemetery in Saint Elmo and consists of over twenty acres of wooded land.

They plan to add trails and maintain the land, granting access to a patch of greenspace right in our backyard.

The Conservancy says they’re now raising money to finalize the purchase.

Dr. Robyn Carlton, President and CEO Lookout Mountain Conservancy told us, “A part of who we are and what we do is that when we acquire something, a piece of property, is really to turn it back over to the public for public use. We want the public to understand, it is privately owned and by our mission, we are making it available for recreational use.”

Once the purchase is finalized, the trails will be open to the public to enjoy, and upkeep of the property will begin.
