Lookout Valley Middle/High School earns recognition in TN FAFSA challenge
LOOKOUT VALLEY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Lookout Valley Middle/High School earned two awards in the 2024-2025 Tennessee FAFSA Challenge.
The school was honored with the awards by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) for its efforts tied to the Tennessee Promise program.
Tennessee Promise provides tuition-free community and technical college opportunities to eligible students.
In the “Very Small School” category (1–50 seniors), Lookout Valley Middle/High School achieved a 100% FAFSA completion rate, earning it the Highest Completion Award.
This means every eligible senior submitted a free application for FAFSA by the state deadline.
In addition, Lookout Valley also received the Most Improved Award in its category, boosting its FAFSA completion rate by 25.5 percent compared to the previous year.
The Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) announced that 158 high schools, including Lookout Valley, have been named FAFSA Champions for the 2024-25 academic year.
This recognition comes as Tennessee now ranks number one in the nation for FAFSA completion, according to the National College Attainment Network (NCAN).
“This recognition reflects the hard work of our schools, counselors, and communities across the state. Being number one in the nation shows what’s possible when we prioritize student access to financial aid and higher education.”
-Dr. Steven Gentile, THEC Executive Director
